    Bethany Barnett, Theology Edits

As a life-long United Methodist, I am delighted to write and edit Christian material. While I am happy to work from any step in the editorial process, I typically offer creative writing, copyediting, and proofreading services. The Bible itself is the inspiration for my work. It is a brilliant library filled with diverse genres, perspectives, and, yes—edits! I, like my predecessors, love to edit a variety of genres. From devotionals to commentaries, I work with it all.

Editor Bio: In undergrad, I studied intercultural studies (missions) and creative writing at Trevecca Nazarene University. Afterward, I spent a bit of time in seminary at Perkins School of Theology before realizing God called me to editing. These days, I’m working on my editing certificate at the University of Chicago, taking long walks with my dog, and leading the young adult group and mission committee at my church.

    Elizabeth Davis, Editorial freelancer

After 17 years in the nonprofit sector, I transitioned to freelance copyediting. I specialize in nonfiction with an emphasis on Christianity. I have been immersed in the mainline Protestant tradition my entire life, so I speak the language. And thanks to some of my editing clients, I have become well-versed in theology and ethics.

I will happily correct errors in spelling, grammar, word choice, and punctuation. I delight in making suggestions to improve clarity and flow. My editing superpower is noticing overused words, phrases, and constructions. I will ensure consistency (internally and according to your particular style guide) and do fact-checking.

Besides book manuscripts, I also offer administrative support. I am proficient with spreadsheets and data entry. I enjoy the variety of one-off projects, such as migrating data to a new system. I’d be happy to review articles, web copy, letters, you name it. Also, I read music and have sung in choirs most of my life, which could be useful for music publishers.

Finally, I am expanding into indexing! I’m taking indexing courses and have written two indexes for religion books.
